VESPA

The VESPA learning-characteristics model helps sixth-form students develop successful study habits and is used in a number of Sixth Forms across the country to support students to identify and then work on their individual areas for development.

The framework was created by Steve Oakes and Martin Griffin, drawing on research from psychology, motivation theory and high-performance learning. VESPA translates these ideas into practical behaviours that help students improve academic performance and independence.

For reporting, we use the grid linked below to support both teachers and students to see where there are areas of strength and development.

  • Vision focuses on clear goals
  • Effort emphasises consistent hard work
  • Systems promote organised routines for lesson notes and revision
  • Practice develops skills through repetition and links with our assessment sessions fortnightly
  • Attitude encourages a resilient, growth-based mindset
