Healthy Eating Week 2023

Healthy Eating Week is all about supporting and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Within the Food Technology department this week, we have focused on one healthy eating message per day. On Monday the focus of the day was eating your 5 a day. At lunchtime there was a variety of fresh and dried  fruits for students to try such as Pomegranate, papaya, pear,  melon and many other examples. There were food related quizzes and challenges to win prizes all promoting healthy eating .

Tuesday’s message was ‘Focus on fibre’. At lunchtime students could taste test homemade cereal bars and compare it to a shop bought variety. There was an after school cookery club to bake & try a cereal bar as a healthy eating snack. The snack used a mixture of seeds, dried cranberries , dark chocolate, oats honey and set with coconut oil.

On Wednesday ‘Vary your protein’ which involved exploring different types of protein in terms of nutritional content & fats.  At after school club students could make homemade nuggets & ketchup/BBQ sauce.

Thursday’s focus was the most popular -there were fruit infused water available to sample such as mint & cucumber , lemon & lime, summer berries, pineapple & mango, strawberry, basil & lemon. Since Thursday was such a warm and sunny day, it was perfect to have a nice cold drink of water.
