Inspiring Futures at The Angmering School Geography Careers Day
This week our Year 8 Geography Ambassadors enjoyed an exciting and inspiring Geography Careers Day held in the Angmering Sixth Form. The event brought together 46 enthusiastic students giving them the opportunity to discover how geography plays a vital role in a wide range of careers.

Throughout the day, students met professionals from a variety of industries, each demonstrating how the knowledge and skills gained through studying geography can lead to rewarding and diverse career paths.

Rachael Williams from the West Sussex Growers Association gave students a fascinating insight into the world of food production and agriculture. Students examined and tasted fresh strawberries while learning about the journey from field to fork. Rachael also brought along bees, explaining the essential role they play in pollination and why they are so important for our environment and food security.

Former Angmering School student Daniel Welton, now Marketing Manager at Marine Testing Solutions shared his personal career journey from being an Angmering alumnus to working in the marine industry. His talk highlighted how determination, transferable skills and a passion for learning can open doors to exciting career opportunities.

Students also heard from Henrieta Kay, from the Account resolution team at Southern Water, who explained the complex work involved in ensuring that clean, safe drinking water reaches our homes every day. Her presentation explored the many teams and processes required to manage one of our most valuable natural resources.

Finally, Kathryn Welch, Senior planning officer at Arun District Council, introduced students to the challenges of housing development and planning within our local area. She explained how planners balance the need for new homes with protecting the environment, supporting local communities and creating sustainable places to live.

The event gave students a valuable opportunity to ask questions, explore different career pathways and see first-hand how geography connects to real-world issues. From agriculture and environmental management to marine science, water services and urban planning, the day demonstrated the breadth of careers available to those with an interest in geography.

We are also incredibly proud of our Year 8 Geography Ambassadors, whose enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent questions made the day such a success.
