The Lavinia Norfolk Centre

The Learning Support Department supports the learning of all students in The Angmering School. Playing a pivotal role in the school, is the Lavinia Norfolk Centre (LNC) which is a Specialist Support Facility for students with a physical or sensory impairment.

This unique facility is recognised both at county and national level as a centre of excellence and expertise.

Ofsted described the LNC as “a source of inspiration for all students” and in 2017 said the LNC  provides “highly effective support for students with physical, medical or sensory disabilities.  This enables them to be fully integrated within the whole school creating an inclusive and respectful ethos.” The Department’s aim is to enable each student to be happy, reach their full potential, and to be as independent as possible, ready to play a full role in society, as adults.

Ofsted stated “Disabled students, or those who need extra help, including those in The Lavinia Norfolk Centre, typically progress well. Some make outstanding progress, particularly in the Centre, given their level of need” and in 2017 added “Pupils who have special educational needs and /or disabilities are very well supported across the school to access learning” and described their progress as “good” making students  “ready for life”.

The school has high aspirations for all students. Both the Learning Support Department and LNC are central to the school’s ethos of total inclusion, and play a very significant role in the learning of all students in the school.

Students with EHCPs are allocated either a planned place in the LNC, or a place in the main school following consultation with West Sussex County Council. Parents considering such a placement are encouraged to visit the school and a tour of the school by students can be scheduled at anytime in the year, followed by a meeting with a member of the SEND Team.
