The Year 10 Boys Basketball team travelled to East Grinstead to take on Sackville school. They arrived not knowing anything about their opponent, so they focused on their own game. Cameron, Fynn, Lewis, Charlie and Ollie started the game confidently. Zak and Alfie were on the bench ready to come on. The first quarter started slow. Angmering was good on offence scoring a lot of points but they also protected their basket very well, not allowing Sackville to score many points. First quarter finished 13 – 3 to Angmering.
Moving into the second, after Angmering’s team talk they were raring to get more points on the board. Angmering started to pick up their game, successfully running plays and scoring points offence after offence. The end of the half got a bit heated when one of the opposition gave Charlie Robinson a nudge… he was not having that!
Sackville tried to pick up their defence in the third, playing full court press. But Angmering quickly worked out what they were doing and were able to overcome it. At the end of the third it was 54 – 24 to Angmering but that wasn’t enough…
The Angmering boys had a team talk at the end of the third. They decided that 54 points was not enough, so they set themselves a target to finish the game with 80. Alfie Kav scored the first point of the 4th with a midrange swish!
The rest of the quarter was very basic and Angmering played very slowly. With 59 seconds on the clock and 71 points on the board, Angmering sprang into action and were determined to score 9 more points to get to 80. Cam went on a scoring spree but with 16 seconds on the clock Cameron drove to the basket and got an And 1. He made the free throw to get them to 80. The last moment of play, Sackville was on offence but their buzzer beater shot was blocked by Fynn Gilham. And that was the end of the game. Angmering get the win 80 – 31.
