Physical Disabilities

Students with a range of physical disabilities are supported on the basis of their physical needs within their timetabled lessons.

They will follow their peers in accessing a mainstream curriculum but in addition will have access to physiotherapy and hydrotherapy should they require it.

As these students progress through the school so their option choices and timetable will be negotiated with the student, parents and relevant members of the SENCO team. This will ensure they receive their full entitlement to all aspects of the school’s curriculum. Every effort is made to support the student’s attendance and involvement in all school trips and events.

Students will have the opportunity to follow a KS3 PE programme which focuses on para sports and will also be able to compete for the school in a number of these sports at local, county, regional and even national level.

Facilities included to help meet the ongoing therapy, care and medical needs of the students include:

  • Access to physiotherapist and assistant
  • The physiotherapy suite
  • The hydrotherapy pool
  • The hygiene suite all of which have overhead tracking

The school also has access to further specialist support in the form of:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Wheelchair services
  • Speech, Language and Communication advice
  • Specialist Careers advisors

Each child also has access to a range of IT equipment to help foster their independence and maximise their academic potential.

The team is led by  Ms N Webb and a large group of LSAs who monitor and support the students on a daily basis.
