Road Safety Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to you today to seek your support in order that we can keep your children safe as they travel to and from school. In the last month we have received an increased number of messages from local people about the risky behaviours being shown by our children as they come to and from school. The behaviours of particular concern are:

  • Riding bikes several abreast on roads and blocking traffic (including some students pulling ‘wheelies’)
  • Running across the dual carriageway rather than using the designated crossings
  • Playing ‘chicken’ by walking in front of cars, requiring them to brake suddenly

Our primary concern is that our children stay safe and that we all encourage them to act sensibly around roads and traffic. We are running a series of road and rail safety assemblies but would also really appreciate your support at home. Please take a few minutes to talk to your children about their behaviour on the way to and from school (and that of their friends). Reiterate that their safety is our main concern and that they need to show all road users respect and to follow the Green Cross Code in order to stay safe.

If you are aware of any specific students who you think would benefit from an additional road safety session please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Year Team Leader with their names. We would rather have the conversations with them repeatedly than have them putting themselves at risk.

Thanks so much for your support in this important matter,

Simon Liley
