Our Dance Live team competed at the inaugural event of the competition at the Portsmouth Guildhall Theatre on Wednesday 12th February. ‘Teenage Tommies’ explored the story of Aby Bevistein and how he joined the Middlesex Regiment in September 1914, to fight for our country, despite only being aged only 16.
This new competition required minimal set and relied on the use of an LED screen to provide projection as a backdrop. This is a really interesting way to explore digital dance and we are looking forward to developing our ideas concerning how to use this medium next year. We were proud to place 3rd in the competition, qualifying for the final in April and the judge commented on our effective use of choreography, expressive skills and individual performances of specific dancers. We were extremely proud of how the whole team worked together to create a thought-provoking and emotive piece and we can’t wait to do it all again at the final.
Special thanks to Mrs Grace, Mrs Fullman, Mr Pearson, Miss Simmons and Mrs Street who accompanied us on the trip, Mr Godsmark for creating the soundtrack, Tayla Swann and Issy Ericson for creating our ‘Road to Dance Live Video’ and Oliver Chenery for creating our projection.
