Rock Challenge

Congratulations to our incredible Rock Challenge team who were placed 1st at the Hawth Crawley on the 26th February, with their piece ‘Perfectly Peculiar’. The dance was based on the novel ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ and explored the journey that the character Jake goes on as he finds a series of ‘Peculiar’ photographs belonging to his Grandfather. The piece celebrates difference and our dancers embraced the different characteristics and unique qualities each character possesses. We are also fortunate that Andrew Taylor was able to create our award winning set, which really helped to capture the images from the film.

This is our most successful Rock Challenge to date and we won a total of 13 individual awards, including Best choreography, Best concept, Best Drama skills, Best Stage crew, Most entertaining and Visual Enhancement. We are fortunate to have an amazing team of staff that are willing to support the dance team with the event, including Mrs Fullman, Mr Jenner, Mrs Street, Mrs Scales and Miss Pratt and particular thanks go to Miss Grace, Miss Towson and Miss Merry who have assisted with rehearsals. This year our stage crew also excelled themselves and they proved themselves to be great problem solvers and exceptionally resourceful, when adjustments to the set needed to be made on the day.

We are so proud of all of our team and the huge amount of talent that we have in this school. We now can’t wait to the final which will take place on the 25th April at the Guildhall Portsmouth.

Mrs Hodson-Prior and Miss Martin
