Youth Project
REGULAR YOUTH ACTIVITIES
The Youth Project has now been in operation for fifteen years! We have a variety of activities on offer as usual and will endeavour to cater for requested activities if there is sufficient demand and a leader can be found. We are open to all young people in the area regardless of whether or not they attend the Angmering School.
The subscription for each activity is normally stated. If it is not, you may assume that it is £1 per hour. Please do not be on site more than five minutes before or ten minutes after your activity.
In an effort to be more outward looking, we have a link with the Chestnut Tree House Hospice and will be supporting them in a variety of ways from the start of this term.
INTERACT
There are two Interact sessions during the week. Year 7 club takes place on Tuesday evenings and Year 8 on Wednesdays. Both run from 6-8pm. There is a variety of activities available, including Playstation games, table football, air hockey, snooker, table tennis, and team games in the Sports Hall. Admission is £2 and you might like to know that there is a Tuck Shop facility in the social area where you can just sit and chat!
CLIMBING CLUB
The Climbing Club, led by Mr Jackson runs at different times in the week. This involves training on the recently installed climbing wall as well as trips out to the real rock face.
ROCK SCHOOL
We have several bands, using our practice facilities in the new Music Block at the moment. Generally this takes place from Monday to Thursday evenings. There is a huge demand for time slots, so make your request early, to Mick Frayne. Priority will be given to established bands but there are a few extra slots. We have all the equipment you will need for a rock band practice or full performance. Band practice is £1 per person per hour.
In addition we now have the facility of a recording studio for you to create your own CDs, using your own original material and produce them under your own label! If you wish to use the studio, arrangements must be made in advance with Mick Frayne.
BADMINTON
Badminton has proved a very popular activity for both sexes. It is suitable for beginners and more experienced players alike. The sessions run for two consecutive hours from 6pm on Mondays and you may come for either the first hour or the second - or both if you can play well and last that long, at £1 per hour.
OTHER EVENTS
DUKE OF EDINBURGH SCHEME: there is a thriving course available to older pupils, which has seen many awards gained in the past few years. Details can be obtained from Mr Jackson.
There is an ARCHERY CLUB and a JUDO CLUB, which are run externally but which take place on the school premises. If you would like to join one of these, please talk to Mr Frayne or Mr Jackson who will make the request on your behalf.
CANOE SAFETY: You may have seen the Canoe Safety Club in action recently, led by Jon Barnes, an ex pupil of the School. The sessions will take place on Mondays from 6-8pm. You will be taught how to roll a canoe and the rules for safe canoeing when you eventually venture out on to the open water. Courses run for a minimum of six weeks with flexiblity for more and the cost is £2 for a two hour session.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: This activity takes place on Mondays at 5pm in the Sports Hall. Ms Joshi is the instructor. It is a fun session, but anyone who wishes to take it further will be encouraged and supported in doing so. The cost is just £1 per session.
The BABYSITTING SKILLS course has again been very successful and will be repeated primarily for Year 9 pupils during the course of the term. Details will be advertised very soon.
We have a STAGE CREW led by Mr Hill-Smith. In return for donations to Chesnut Tree House, stage, sound and lighting rigs can be set up for local events and activities.
Thanks are due to all sponsors of our youth programme, whether already initiated or promised - local parish councils, local church congregations and many families of pupils within the school. We would not be able to function effectively without their generosity.
