We look forward to welcoming the students allocated places with us. We want to make sure you are happy when you get here. So it’s important to make sure you feel happy about it now.
Over the summer term you will visit us several times and the Year Team Leader will come to your school. So when you start in September 2018 you will know what it will be like.
We are very proud of the school. We hope you will be proud to be part of it.
Y6 Activity Evenings
If your child has been allocated a place at the school in Y7 to start in September 2018 we would like to invite your son or daughter to join us for two fun evenings at the end of May. Full details will be provided in the Spring Term. There will be various activities on offer. It will be an opportunity for students to meet other students transferring from primary schools and to meet staff so there will be some familiar faces on Induction Day and in September when the term starts.
We will have refreshments available and we ask for £2 for each session, which at £1 per hour is our normal activity rate, kept deliberately low to encourage maximum participation. Do not send the money in advance – please pay on the evening.
Letters will be included in your admission packs. If you need a duplicate please ring the school office. It is possible to just turn up, but it does help us with catering arrangements if you let us know. It is important that these sessions do not interfere with any activity that may be taking place at your current school. They must have the priority. Please book a place by returning the slip in your admission pack or by ringing Mrs Moppett on 01903 778362
Y6 15 minute appointments
We offer 15 Minute appointments with a member of our Senior Leadership Team for students and their parents about any worries or concerns they may have about transition or starting with us in September. Dates and times are available to any student with a place to transfer to our Y7 in September. Please book an appointment by ringing Mrs Moppett on 778362.
The Year Team Leader for Y7 will come to visit your school and welcome you on Induction Day on 4 July 2018 and introduce you to your tutor. They will work with you to help you settle, learn well and be happy in school and are really looking forward to meeting you.
Induction Day : Wednesday 4 July 2018
We want our new students to enjoy their move to our school and this day is designed to be enjoyable and to calm any last worries or fears. During the day the new students will tour the school and do some lessons. The activities give students a first taste of life at their new school, help them make new friends and enable them to get to know the tutors who will be so important to them next year.
In order to make Induction Day as normal as possible, please arrange for your child to arrive at the School Hall by 8.30 a.m. You should collect them from there, or arrange for their safe journey home at 3.00 p.m.
Students should wear their existing school Uniform and bring with them a pencil case containing a pencil, pen, eraser, coloured pencils and a ruler. Students will experience two taster lessons during the day. One will be a trial science lesson so please ensure long hair is tied back and no open toed shoes are worn. The other lesson will be either Art, Design and Technology or Humanities.
At Angmering we have DEAR time – Drop Everything And Read. This happens every day after tutor time for 20 minutes. Your child will need to bring a book with them to read on Induction Day. This should be a fiction story book.
Students will eat their lunch in school and they can either buy food in our canteen, operating as a self service cafeteria which sells a wide range of food, or bring a packed lunch to eat there. They will be allowed into the cafeteria before the rest of the school. Students can purchase a main meal (no drink) for £2.25. The canteen will be serving pizza and wedges on Induction Day and a vegetarian option will be available also. Alternatively, students can purchase a sandwich meal deal which consists of a sandwich, cookie and a drink for £2.25. Other items are available and £3 is a guide for the amount needed to buy a meal and a drink.
We will make arrangements for those students who have free school meals to be provided with a meal on the day. There will not be access to the canteen during the morning break so students may bring a snack with them if they wish.
6pm : New Parents’ Evening to be held in the Hall (this is an evening for the parents only). Following a short talk by the Headteacher, and the Year 7 Team Leader, parents will have the opportunity to spend time with their son/daughter’s Group Tutor in the tutor room. Also, parents will be able to meet members of the Headship Team, talk to the school uniform and equipment suppliers and find answers to any questions parents may have. Parents can buy stationery items during the evening.
The Angmering School hopes to ease transition by offering students the opportunity to visit on occasions before moving up to the secondary school in Year 7. Opportunities include library visits, Gifted and Talented workshops, concerts and dramatic productions and a multitude of sporting opportunities. For more details visit the Family Group sport website:
